Shaft Seal

Talking about pumps, a shaft seal is a device used to prevent liquid from escaping from the pump and entering the interior of the pump. It is often referred to as a seal or gland.

The primary function of a shaft seal is to seal the rotating shaft that operates in the pump to prevent fluid loss while preventing foreign matter from entering the pump. The shaft seal consists of several components, including a mechanical seal, a shaft sleeve and an impression seal. The mechanical seal is usually made of carbon or ceramic and is pressed against the rotating shaft to provide a seal. The impression seal ensures no fluid enters the space between the mechanical seal and the shaft. The shaft sleeve holds the seals in place and protects them from damage. Selecting and maintaining the correct shaft seal ensures the pump operates efficiently and reliably. If the shaft seal leaks or is damaged, it can cause leakage and affect the pump's functionality. Therefore, proper installation and regular inspection and maintenance of shaft seals in pumps are of great importance, especially in industrial applications where pumps often operate in extreme conditions.
